1. Set your radio and the other radio(s) to the same DCS code number, per the discussion
on page 36.
2. Press the key, then press the key. You will observe
the “OUT RANGE OUT RANGE OUT RANGE OUT RANGE OUT RANGE ” display on the LCD below the operating
frequency. ARTS TM operation has now commenced.
3. Every 25 seconds, your radio will transmit a “polling” call
to the other station. When that station responds with its own
ARTS
TM polling signal, the display will change to “IN IN IN IN IN
RANGE RANGE RANGE RANGE RANGE ” to confirm that the other station’s polling code was
received in response to yours.
4. Press the key to exit ARTS TM operation and resume normal functioning of the
transceiver.
ARTS TM won’t work if you have used the Lock feature to disable the PTT!

The ARTS TM feature may be programmed to poll every 25 seconds (default value) or 15
seconds. The default value provides maximum battery conservation, because the polling
signal is sent out less frequently. To change the polling interval:
1. Press and hold the key for one second to enter the Set Mode.
2. Rotate the DIAL knob to select Set Mode Item 6: ARTS 6: ARTS 6: ARTS 6: ARTS 6: ARTS
INTERVAL INTERVAL INTERVAL INTERVAL INTERVAL .
3. Press the key briefly to enable adjustment of this Set
Mode Item.
4. Rotate the DIAL knob to select the desired polling interval
(25sec 25sec 25sec 25sec 25sec or 15sec 15sec 15sec 15sec 15sec ).
5. Press the PTT switch briefly to save the new setting and
exit to normal operation.
