HDMI troubleshooting

Problem

Remedy

No HDMI audio output.

• Check whether or not

HDMI Out (page 32) is set to Off.

• This unit has been designed to be compliant with HDMI (High-Definition Multimedia Interface).

Depending on the component you have connected, unreliable signal transfers may result.

• If the front panel HDMI indicator is lit:
– You won’t hear any sound from the HDMI output if the source component is only DVI/HDCP-
compatible.
• If the front panel HDMI indicator is unlit then:
– Make sure that you’ve selected this player as the HDMI input in the settings for the component you’re
using. You may need to refer to the instruction manual of the component to do this.
– Check that the HDMI cable is connected properly and that the cable isn’t damaged.
– Check that components connected using the HDMI interface are switched on and HDMI compatible.
• Check that the

PURE AUDIO indicator is not lit. If it is, press the PURE AUDIO button (See also Front

panel on page 16).

No HDMI video output.

• Make sure that you’ve selected this player as the HDMI input in the settings for the component you’re

using. You may need to refer to the instruction manual of the component to do this.

• Check that the HDMI cable is connected properly and that the cable isn’t damaged.
• Check that components connected using the HDMI interface are switched on and HDMI compatible.
• This unit has been designed to be compliant with HDMI (High-Definition Multimedia Interface).

Depending on the component you have connected, using a DVI connection may result in unreliable
signal transfers.

• Make sure the resolution on this player matches that of the component you have connected using

HDMI. See

Resolution (Max) on page 33 to change the HDMI resolution. See Resetting the output

resolution to the default setting with HDMI connection on page 15 if you want to reset the output
resolution.

• Check that the

PURE AUDIO indicator is not lit. If it is, press the PURE AUDIO button (See also Front

panel on page 16).

• Depending on the HDMI cable being used, 1080p output may not appear correctly.

No multichannel HDMI audio.

• Make sure that the

HDMI Out (page 32) is set to Auto or LPCM (5.1CH) and that SACD Playback

(page 34) is set to

Multi-ch Area. See also About the HDMI audio output settings and HDMI output

with DVD-Audio and SACD sources on page 38.

A connected DVI component (with
HDCP) doesn’t work with this
player.

• This unit has been designed to be compliant with HDMI (High-Definition Multimedia Interface).

Depending on the component you have connected, using a DVI connection may result in unreliable
signal transfers.

HDMI Control does not function.

• Verify that the HDMI cable is firmly connected.
• Make sure that this unit’s

HDMI Control (page 34) is set to On.

• Make sure that the HDMI Control for the connected components is set to On. For more information,

refer to the operating manual for the connected component.

• This function may not work properly if you have multiple components connected to a single plasma

television, AV system (amplifier or AV receiver etc.), or HD AV Converter. For more information refer to
the operating manual of your plasma television, AV system, or HD AV Converter.

• You can enable HDMI Control by turning the

HDMI Control setting to On for all components

connected via HDMI cable. Check the video output from this unit once you have completed making
connections and settings for all components. You will need to check the video output each time you
change connected components or remove the HDMI cable.

• Check whether the connected component supports HDMI Control or not. For more information refer to

the operating manual of your plasma television, AV system (amplifier or AV receiver etc.), or HD AV
Converter.

• Certain functions are not supported on some plasma televisions.
• This player does not support HDMI Control-compatible components other than those made by Pioneer.
• This unit will not function properly with components that do not support HDMI Control, or when

connected with components other than those made by Pioneer.

• Note that HDMI Control may not operate properly if you do not use an HDMI cable that supports the

HDMI 1.3 specification (Category 2) or later.

• HDMI Control may not work properly if an SCART cable and an HDMI cable are connected

simultaneously. Set

HDMI Control to Off when connecting SCART and HDMI cables simultaneously.
