Rotary level control: it a enuates the level of the signal sent to the LINE IN input, the a enua on ranges from “0” fully
closed (the signal is completely a enuated) to “10” fully open, nominal level (the signal is not a enuated in any way,
so is fed to the internal amplifi er at the same level at which it arrives on input).

6. MIDFIELD / NEARFIELD preset switch

This switch allows to select two diff erent EQ presets op mized for two diff erent applica ons: NEARFIELD is for the use as
a PC or DESKTOP speaker, MIDFIELD is for the use a a musician MONITOR, as an INSTALLATION speaker or as a PORTABLE
DJ or LIVE system (with SW110A sub-woofer).

7. SIGN / LIMIT indicator

GREEN LED illuminates to indicate the presence of the signal at the amplifi er input.
RED LED illuminates when the internal amplifi er's output is limited. When this LED fl ashes reduce the input signal
level.

8. ON indicator

GREEN LED: when lighted indicates amplifi er has been turned on and AC power is available.

9. POWER switch

Speaker is "ON" when the switch is in the "I" posi on, use this switch to set the speaker power to ON or OFF.
NOTE: When you shut down your equipment, turn off the speaker fi rst. When powering up, turn on the speaker last.

10. AC~ socket

Here’s where you plug in your speaker’s mains supply cord. You should always use the mains cord supplied with the
speaker. Be sure your speaker is turned off before you plug in the cord.

11. LINE VOLTAGE selector

This selector set the AC voltage line of your country (usually it is set by factory and isn't necessary to change). The 120V
se ng is for mains line in the range of 105-120V~ and 240V se ng is for mains line in the range of 210-240V~.

WARNING an incorrect se ng of AC LINE VOLTAGE could damage seriuosly the internal amplifi er!

12. INPUT push terminals (PASSIVE version)

External amplifi er power input: this is the connector where you plug in the power cable coming from your power
amplifi er or powered mixer. The powered signal is fi ltered by an internal passive crossover for the LF woofer and HF
tweeter. The INPUT has this pin connec on:
RED + : posi ve power signal (usually red wire)
BLACK - : nega ve power signal (usually black wire)
Following the same polarity for the whole audio system is very important for obtaining an op mal acous cal result.

13. SNBK / SNWH accessories fi xings (PASSIVE version)

Remove these screws to install the versa le plas c bracket with 2-axis rota on. SNBK (black fi nish) and SNWH (white
fi nish) are available as op onal accessories.

CHOOSE THE AMPLIFIER POWER (PASSIVE version)

We give you two power-handling numbers: rms (con nuous) and peak. So these data suggest you can use any amplifi er
with a power capability equal or less the power-handling, but this rule is valid only if the amplifi er never clips.
Preven ng loudspeaker damage caused by clipping, that is likely the number one cause of damage, and assuming you
want to use the full capability of the loudspeaker, we recommend the use of an amplifi er with a built-in limiter to prevent
clipping. In this case the rated power capability must be the same con nuous power ra ng of the loudspeaker into the
same specifi ed impedance ( pically 4 or 8 ohms):
To obtain the best result using FLASH5 PASSIVE loudspeakers we suggest the use of amplifi ers as indicated on the
following table:

AMP rms ra ng power
for 1 channel

nominal impedance
for 1 channel

Number of FLASH5 (16 ohm)

IMPORTANT: Clipping occurs when the signal at the output of any device in the system (not just the amplifi er) reaches its
maximum level. Proper opera on of a sound system includes being aware of the types of audio signals being reproduced,
controlling the output levels accordingly, and opera ng all the devices in the system so that no clipping occurs within
the signal chain.
