IMPORTANT

1.1

Important

Read these instructions carefully before installing and using the device and follow all additional information for installation and electrical connection;
keep these instructions close to the device for future consultations.

The device must be disposed according to the local legislation about the collection for electrical and electronic equipment.

3.2

Installation

Wall mounting (on the left), with fixing screws (not supplied) or DIN rail
mounting (on the right).

To remove the device from the fixing bracket, operate with a screw-
driver as indicated in the drawings.

INTRODUCTION

2.1

Introduction

EVST is a range of soft starters for the switching on, the protection and
the starting current limitation of CSR (Capacitor Start and Run) single-
phase “scroll” compressors in refrigeration and air conditioning applica-
tions.
The range is made of the following models:
• EVST25A - for motors having maximum working current of 25 A and

starting current limitation of 40 A

• EVST32A - for motors having maximum working current of 32 A and

starting current limitation of 45 A.

The models look in blind plastic enclosure with diagnostic LEDs able to
signal working status (waiting for motor switching on command, mo-
tor starting, motor running, etc.) and alarms (running current out of
range, locked rotor, starting capacitor not disconnected, etc.).
The device has been studied for wall or DIN rail mounting.

SIZE AND INSTALLATION

3.1

Size

Size in mm (in).

3.3

Additional information for installation

• working conditions (working temperature, humidity, etc.) must be be-

tween the limits indicated in the technical data

• do not install the device close to heating sources (heaters, hot air

ducts, etc.), devices provided with big magnetos (big speakers, etc.),
locations subject to direct sunlight, rain, humidity, dust, mechanical
vibrations or bumps

• the control device has been designed to be mounted on a rigid wall

using screws or rivets in order to assure the fixing screw firmly or to be
mounted on a rail TH 35-7.5 or TH 35-15 (EN60715) assuring that the
slide of the device on the rail, due to bumps or vibrations is the most
possible limited; the preferential mounting position is the one with the
LEDs at the top and the terminals at the bottom

• protection against the electrical shock: the control device enclosure

provides the functional insulation only; consequently it will be neces-
sary to adopt suitable precautions in the user’s appliance in order to
make not possible the contact with any part of the device during the
normal operation; these precautions must assure a double insulation
or a reinforced insulation between the control device and the opera-
tor (they can also be made of metallic walls adequately connected to
the conductor put to earth of protection in the appliances of Class I).

ELECTRICAL CONNECTION

4.1

Electrical connection

• one of the following alarms has arisen:

n

MEANING

1

electric system voltage out of range (lower or equal to
185 V or higher or equal to 260 V for a time longer or equal
to 1 s)

2

• electric system voltage out of range (lower or equal to

100 V or higher or equal to 300 V for a time longer or
equal to 0.1 s)

• microinterruption of the electric system voltage (for a time

longer or equal to 0.01 s)

3

running current out of range (higher or equal to 50 A for a
time longer or equal to 1 s)

4

locked rotor

5

starting capacitor not disconnected

6

working current out of range (lower or equal to 1 A for a
time longer or equal to 1 s)

LED SERVICE (red LED)

If it is out:
• the device works correctly
• it is running a delay to the motor starting (5 min) because of a previ-

ous starting failed because of an alarm; also look at the meaning of
LED ALARM.

If it is lit:
• the device is locked because of 5 motor starting failed because of an

alarm; also look at the meaning of LED ALARM (with reference to the
chart related in the previous paragraph, the alarms corresponding to
n=2 do not contribute to increase the alarms counter).

To clear the alarms counter switch off / on the power supply of the
device; the counter is also automatically cleared after 5 s a starting has
succeeded.

TECHNICAL DATA

6.1

Technical data

Purpose of control: relay for motors starting.
Construction of control: electronic control device to be incorpo-
rated.
Enclosure: plastic, self-extinguishing, grey.
Degree of protection: IP 00.
Connections:
• for EVST25A: screw terminal block for cables up to 4 mm² (R; RC; L)

and extractable screw terminal block for cables up to 2.5 mm² (S; On;
N)

• for EVST32A: screw terminal block for cables up to 6 mm² (R; RC; L)

and extractable screw terminal block for cables up to 2.5 mm² (S; On;
N).

The maximum length allowed for the connecting cables about the con-
trol and output lines is 10 m (32 ft).

Additional information for electrical connection

• do not operate on the terminal blocks with electrical or pneumatic

screwers

• if the device has been moved from a cold location to a warm one, the

humidity could condense on the inside; wait about an hour before
energizing it

• test the working power supply voltage, working electrical frequency

and working electrical power of the device; they must correspond
with the local power supply

• disconnect the local power supply before servicing the device
• do not use the device as safety device
• for repairs and information on the device please contact Evco sales

network.

SIGNALS AND ALARMS

5.1

Cenni preliminari

Diagnostic LEDs are able to signal working status and alarms.

5.2

LED STATUS (green LED)

If it is out:
• the device is not energized
• an alarm has arisen (but “voltage out of range”); also look at the mean-

ing of LED ALARM

• the device is locked; also look at the meaning of LED SERVICE.
If it flashes as follows:

• the device works correctly and is waiting for motor switching on com-

mand.

If it flashes as follows:

• it is running a delay to the motor starting (3 min) because of a switch-

ing off

• a “voltage out of range” alarm is running; also look at the meaning of

LED ALARM.

If it is lit:
• the device is energized
• the motor starting is running
• the motor is running.
5.3

LED ALARM (red LED)

If it is out:
• the device works correctly.
If it flashes as follows (example with a number of flashes equal to 2; also
look at the chart related in this paragraph):
